율법이 아닌 믿음으로

“그리스도께서 … 율법의 저주에서 우리를 속량하셨으니 … 이는 그리스도 예수 안에서 아브라함의 복이 이방인에게 미치게 하고 또 우리로 하여금 믿음으로 말미암아 성령의 약속을 받게 하려 함이라”(갈 3:13-14)
오늘의 본문 구절에서 읽은 율법의 저주로부터의 구원은 이방인이 아닌 유대인을 위한 것이었습니다. 또한, 그것은 구원의 궁극적인 목표가 아니라 더 위대한 것, 즉 아브라함의 축복과 믿음을 통한 성령의 약속으로 가는 문이었습니다. 율법은 사람을 의롭게 하거나 영생을 줄 수 없었습니다. 오직 그리스도를 믿는 믿음만이 성취할 수 있었습니다.
바울은 그리스도께서 유대인들이 율법의 저주에서 자유케 되도록 십자가에서 저주가 되셨다고 말합니다. 하지만 그것이 전부가 아닙니다. 예수님은 아브라함의 축복, 즉 의롭다 하심, 호의, 유업, 성령이 이방인들에게 임하도록 하셨습니다. 율법은 조건에 따라 작동했습니다. 율법은 복종을 기반으로 했습니다.
예를 들어, 하나님께서는 출애굽기 19:5에서 “세계가 다 내게 속하였나니 너희가 내 말을 잘 듣고 내 언약을 지키면 너희는 모든 민족 중에서 내 소유가 되겠고”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그러나 아브라함의 축복은 믿음으로 역사합니다. 아브라함의 축복은 행위로 자격을 얻는 것이 아니라 믿음으로 받는 것입니다. 성경이 아브라함이 하나님을 믿으니 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨졌다고 말하는 것과 같습니다(롬 4:3).
이제 예수님을 믿는 우리는 믿음으로 의롭게 되었고 동일한 축복에 참여하는 자가 되었습니다. 그 축복에는 우리 안에 거하시는 하나님의 영이 포함되어 있습니다. 그분은 우리를 인도하시고, 우리에게 능력을 주시고, 우리를 안으로부터 변화시키십니다. 이것이 신약에서 믿음이 매우 중요한 이유입니다. 로마서 1:17은 “오직 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라”고 말합니다. 또한 히브리서 11:6은 말합니다. “믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 못하나니”
믿음이 없이는 축복을 받을 수도 없고 유업을 누릴 수도 없습니다. 믿음은 하나님께서 그리스도 안에서 당신에게 주신 모든 것을 얻는 열쇠입니다. 그러므로 믿음으로 사십시오! 믿음을 말하고, 믿음으로 반응하십시오. 믿음은 하늘 왕국의 화폐입니다. 믿음은 삶의 방식입니다. 갈라디아서 3:11-12은 말합니다. “또 하나님 앞에서 아무도 율법으로 말미암아 의롭게 되지 못할 것이 분명하니 이는 의인은 믿음으로 살리라 하였음이라 율법은 믿음에서 난 것이 아니니…” 신약의 축복은 믿음으로 당신의 것입니다.

BY FAITH, NOT BY THE LAW
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law…That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Galatians 3:13–14).
Redemption from the curse of the law as read in our opening scripture was for the Jews and not the Gentiles. Moreover, it wasn’t the end goal of salvation but the doorway into something greater: the blessing of Abraham and the promise of the Spirit through faith. The Law could not make man righteous or give him eternal life. Only faith in Christ could accomplish that.
Paul reveals that Christ became a curse on the Cross so that the Jew might be free from the penalties of the Law. But that wasn’t all. He did it so that the blessing of Abraham—justification, favour, inheritance, and the Spirit—might come to the Gentiles. The Law worked on conditions; it was based on obedience.
For example, in Exodus 19:5, God said, “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people….” But the blessing of Abraham operates by faith. It is not about qualifying through works, but about receiving through faith: just as the Bible says that Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness (Romans 4:3).
Now, we who believe in Jesus are made righteous by faith and are partakers of the same blessing. That blessing includes the Spirit of God dwelling in us—guiding, empowering, and transforming us from within. This is why faith is so crucial in the New Testament. Romans 1:17 says, “…as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him…”
Without faith, you can’t receive the blessing or enjoy the inheritance. Your faith is the key to everything God has made available to you in Christ. So, live by faith! Talk faith, and respond in faith. Faith is the currency of our heavenly Kingdom. It’s our lifestyle: Galatians 3:11-12, “But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, the just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith….” The blessings of the New Testament are yours by faith.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for bringing me into the glorious liberty of the sons of God. I walk in the blessing of Abraham, full of faith and led by the Spirit. My life is the expression of your grace, favour and righteousness. I enjoy all that Christ has made available to me. I flourish in every area of my life and fulfil your divine purpose with joy and power, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
