저는 10대가 되기 전에 친구들에게 “나는 절대 가난해지지 않을 거야”라고 말했습니다. 그러자 그들은 웃으며 “네가 어떻게 그런 말을 할 수 있니? 네가 미래를 아는 것도 아니잖아”라고 말했습니다. 저는 친구들이 아마 예상하지 못했을 대답을 했습니다. 제가 절대 가난해지지 않을 것이라고 아는 이유 중 하나는 제가 구두를 닦을 수도 있고, 자동차를 닦을 수도 있기 때문이라고 말했습니다. 그 당시 저는 아버지의 구두를 닦고, 자동차를 닦곤 했습니다. 저는 그런 일들을 아주 잘했습니다. 아버지에게 배웠기 때문입니다.
어렸을 때부터 저는 제 자신에게 가치를 더했습니다. 저는 기술을 배우고, 능력을 개발하고, 제가 하는 모든 일에서 탁월하기로 결단했습니다. 탁월함은 단지 기술에 관한 것이 아닙니다. 탁월함은 사고방식입니다. 성경은 다니엘에게 탁월한 영이 있었고, 왕이 그로 인해 다니엘을 통치자로 삼았다고 말합니다. 탁월함은 당신을 승진시킵니다!
당신이 하는 모든 일에서 평범함을 거절하십시오. 당신의 생각을 발전시키십시오. 당신의 지식을 넓히십시오. 공부하고, 읽고, 배우고, 성장하십시오. 탁월함은 부지런함과 열심을 요구하지만, 그럴만한 가치가 있습니다. 당신이 옷을 입는 방식조차도 그리스도의 탁월함을 반영해야 합니다. 당신은 왕족입니다. 당신은 왕의 자녀입니다. 그러므로 단정하게 옷을 입고, 지혜롭게 말하고, 스스로를 존귀하게 대하십시오. 직장이나 약속에 늦지 마십시오. 일찍 도착하고, 하루를 계획하고, 항상 앞서기 위해 노력하십시오.
하나님은 갑자기 당신을 왕으로 만드시는 것이 아니라 먼저 훈련시키십니다. 당신의 삶 가운데 모든 경험은 그 훈련의 일부입니다. 당신은 더 높은 곳으로 가기 위해 각 단계에서 승리해야 합니다. 당신이 리더라면 더 많은 것을 리더십에 투자하십시오. 당신이 셀을 가르치거나 이끌고 있다면, 더 공부하며 모임을 더 풍성하고 영향력 있게 만드십시오. 사람들이 당신 안에서 성장을 보게 하십시오. 작년의 당신과 같은 사람이 되지 마십시오. 성장하고, 발전하고, 전진하십시오.
당신이 스포츠를 한다면 그 종목의 최고가 되십시오. 팀이 당신을 붙잡기 위해 무엇이든 할 만큼 가치 있는 사람이 되십시오. 탁월함은 당신을 없어서는 안 될 존재로 만듭니다. 당신이 하는 일에서 너무나 탁월하여 아무도 당신을 무시할 수 없게 하십시오. 탁월함에 대한 도전은 하나님의 영광을 위해 최고가 되는 것입니다!

사랑하는 아버지, 내 안에서 역사하는 탁월함의 영에 감사드립니다. 나는 부지런하고, 훈련받고, 발전하기 위해 헌신합니다. 내 마음은 깨어 있고 생산적입니다. 나는 창의적이고 혁신적입니다. 나는 지혜와 탁월함으로 기능하며, 내 세상에 지속적으로 가치를 더합니다. 나는 내가 하는 모든 일에서 탁월합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

THE CHALLENGE OF EXCELLENCE
“Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm” (Daniel 6:3).
Before I was a teenager, I said to some of my friends, “I’ll never be poor.” They laughed and said, “How dare you say that? Do you know the future?” Then I gave them an answer they probably didn’t expect. I said, one of the reasons I know I’ll never be poor is that I can shine shoes and I can wash cars too.” Back then, I used to clean my dad’s shoes, and wash his cars, and I was very good at them, because I learnt from him.
Even as a child, I added value to myself. I learned skills, developed abilities and was determined to be excellent at whatever I did. And excellence is not just about skill; it’s a mindset. The Bible talks about Daniel, that an excellent spirit was found in him, and the king made him a ruler because of it. Excellence promotes you!
In everything you do, refuse mediocrity. Develop your mind. Broaden your knowledge. Study, read, learn, and grow. Excellence requires diligence and hard work, but it’s worth it. Even the way you dress should reflect the excellence of Christ. You’re royalty. You’re a child of the King; therefore, dress neatly, talk intelligently, and carry yourself with honour. Don’t be late to work, or for your appointments. Arrive early, plan your day, and strive to always be ahead.
God doesn’t suddenly make you a king, He trains you first. Every experience in your life is part of that training. You’ve got to win at each level to move higher. If you’re a leader, put more into your leadership. If you teach or lead a cell, study more and make your meetings richer and more impactful. Let people see growth in you. Don’t be the same person you were last year; grow, improve, and advance.
If you’re into sports, be the best. Be so valuable to your team that they’ll do anything to keep you. Excellence makes you indispensable. Be so excellent at what you do that no one can ignore you. That’s the challenge of excellence: becoming the best for the glory of God!
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for the spirit of excellence at work in me. I’m diligent, disciplined and dedicated to improvement. My mind is alert and productive; I’m creative and innovative. I function with wisdom and distinction, and I’m continually adding value to my world. I excel in all I do, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
