Praying In The Spirit
“이와 같이 성령도 우리의 연약함을 도우시나니 우리는 마땅히 기도할 바를 알지 못하나 오직 성령이 말할 수 없는 탄식으로 우리를 위하여 친히 간구하시느니라”(롬 8:26)
성령 안에서 기도하는 것은 우리 그리스도인들에게 가장 효과적인 기도 방법입니다. 그러나 성령 안에서 기도하는 것은 두 가지로 나눌 수 있습니다. 첫 번째는 당신의 영이 성령의 영감으로 기도할 때, 방언으로 영 안에서 말하는 것입니다. 당신이 방언으로 기도할 때, 당신의 영은 힘을 얻고, 높은 건물처럼 세워집니다. 유다서 1:20은 말합니다. “사랑하는 자들아 너희는 너희의 지극히 거룩한 믿음 위에 자신을 세우며 성령으로 기도하며”
고린도전서 14:4은 말합니다. “방언을 말하는 자는 자기의 덕을 세우고…” 이것이 우리가 하나님의 백성들에게 방언을 많이 하라고 말하는 이유입니다. 방언기도는 당신의 영, 혼, 몸을 하나님의 능력으로 충전시킵니다. 당신은 성령으로 말미암아 당신의 속사람 안에서 힘으로 강건해지고, 세워지고, 견고해집니다. 할렐루야!
그러나 성령 안에서 기도하는 것에는 또 다른 단계가 있습니다. 이것 역시 큰 축복과 유익입니다. 이는 당신의 영이 기도하는 것이 아니라 성령님께서 친히 당신을 통해 기도하시거나 중보하시는 것입니다. 오늘의 본문 구절에서 읽은 내용이 바로 이것입니다.
첫 번째 단계에서는 성령님께서 당신에게 발음을 주시고, 당신은 방언으로 말합니다. 하지만 두 번째 단계에서는 발음이 없습니다. 당신은 아는 언어나 모르는 언어로 말하지 않습니다. 오히려 당신에게서 나오는 것은 성령님의 깊은 탄식과 신음입니다. 그 단계에서는 성령님께서 완전히 주도권을 잡으시고, 당신을 통해 아버지의 뜻과 완벽하게 일치하는 기도를 하십니다.
이와 같이 성령님이 당신을 통해 중보하시도록 허락한다면 그 결과는 항상 영광스럽습니다. 성경은 “마음을 살피시는 이가 성령의 생각을 아시나니…”(롬 8:27)라고 말합니다. 당신의 생각이나 이해가 아닌 당신을 통해 표현되는 성령님의 생각입니다.
이어지는 28절은 그 결과의 일부를 보여줍니다. “…하나님을 사랑하는 자 곧 그의 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자들에게는 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루느니라” 성령님께 당신을 통해 중보하시도록 내어드리면 모든 것이 당신에게 유익하도록 조정되고 이루어지며, 역경이나 도전적인 상황 또한 당신에게 유익하도록 조정됩니다. 이것이 여러 축복과 유익 중 하나인 성령 안에서 기도하는 것의 능력입니다. 할렐루야!
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 내가 하나님의 완전한 뜻에 따라 기도하도록 도우시는 성령님의 귀한 선물에 감사드립니다. 지금 내가 성령 안에서 기도할 때, 나는 하나님의 능력으로 충만해지고, 내 삶은 하나님의 목적과 일치합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26).
Praying in the Spirit is the most effective way for us to pray as Christians. But praying in the Spirit is in two parts. The first is when your spirit prays by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, giving you words in the Spirit in other tongues. As you pray in those tongues, your spirit is energised, built up like a towering edifice: Jude 1:20-21, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.”
1 Corinthians 14:4 says, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself….” This is why we tell God’s people to speak in tongues a lot. It keeps your spirit, soul and body supercharged with the power of God. You’re edified, fortified, strengthened with might in your inner man by the Spirit. Hallelujah!
But then there’s also a second level of praying in the Spirit that’s also of great blessing and benefit. This time, it’s not your spirit that’s praying, but the Holy Spirit Himself praying or making intercession through you. That’s what we read in our opening scripture.
In the first one, He gives you utterance, you speak words in tongues. But in this case, there’s no utterance; you don’t speak in a known or unknown language; rather, what comes out of you are deep sighs and groanings of the Spirit. At that level, the Holy Spirit takes over completely, praying through you in perfect harmony with the will of the Father.
When you allow the Holy Spirit to intercede through you this way, the result is always glorious. The scripture says, “He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit” (Romans 8:27). It’s not your mind or your understanding; it’s the Spirit’s mind being expressed through you.
The ensuing verse 28 reveals part of the outcome, “…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Yielding to the Holy Spirit to intercede through you causes all things to align and work out in your favour, including adverse or challenging situations. That’s the power of praying in the Spirit, amongst several other blessings and benefits. Hallelujah!
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the precious gift of the Holy Spirit who helps me to pray according to your perfect will. Even now, as I pray in the Spirit, I’m filled with your power, and my life is aligned with your purpose, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
